The demand for well-trained nurse leaders is projected to grow as the industry seeks professionals who have what it takes to make decisions at higher levels of health care leadership. This MSN degree program has a concentration in Nurse Leadership, providing graduates with the knowledge and skills to pursue management and executive-level positions, where they can help set standards for the quality of care in healthcare organizations of all sizes. This program is operated out of the Ottawa University main campus in Ottawa, Kansas.
Graduates of the Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nurse Leadership will be prepared to sit for the Nurse Executive Certification Exam of the American Organization of Nursing Executive (AONE) as well as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Nurse Executive and Nurse Executive Advanced Certification Exam.
The Ottawa University Master of Science in Nursing degree is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Education, an official program accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. CCNE ensure the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency/fellowship programs in nursing.
CCNE Accredited Nursing Program
Ottawa’s Master of Science in Nursing degree program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the leading accrediting agency for baccalaureate and graduate degree nursing programs in the United States. CCNE serves the public interest by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices. Program accreditation was effective in March 2019 and extends through December 2024.
PROGRAM DELIVERY
Ottawa’s innovative Master of Science in Nursing degree can help you fulfill personal and career goals and increase your overall earning potential. This program empowers graduates to become servant leaders in the nursing profession, improving health outcomes for individuals, families, groups, and communities in diverse population settings.
All courses will be taught in a blended learning format. Courses are taught both online and face to face on the main campus of Ottawa University. Each semester students will gather at the main campus for one long weekend (Friday -Sunday) for in-person instruction.
- The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program at Ottawa University is designed to help registered nurses gain the leadership strategies, critical-thinking skills and professional qualifications to take the next step in their careers. There is a tremendous need for qualified leaders in the nursing profession. This MSN program, with core coursework on topics ranging from advanced health assessment to exploring cultural diversity, will put students on the right track to fill those roles.
- A critical component of this program is the Day One Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirement. Day One CPT is full-time paid employment that is required by the university in order to fulfill the requirement of the degree. All students will work full-time for the duration of the 2 year program. Day One CPT is available to graduate students with an F-1 VISA.
- The program is offered in a cohort model, which means students progress class-by-class, together as a group, building valuable networks that can serve them beyond graduation. Our Nursing program faculty are experts in their fields, currently connected to what it takes to succeed in healthcare today. In addition to their impressive backgrounds, our faculty share a passion for teaching and a desire to help students succeed.
- This program is designed for the registered nurse who has graduated from an accredited international nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and have completed at least 2 years of work as a registered nurse. A current, unrestricted RN license (obtained in the U.S.) is required.
- Student submits an initial application to Ottawa University with a CGFNS assessed bachelor’s degree transcript and a copy of a current nursing license from their country.
- In order to be accepted into the MSN program at Ottawa University, students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing degree program with a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
